Augenschein

Datenschutz.

Augenschein erhebt keine Daten.

English version.

Augenschein collects no data. The only thing that leaves the device is the overall checksum on sealing — 32 bytes from which nothing can be reversed.

In short

Augenschein collects nothing. There is no account, no sign-in, no synchronisation, no usage analytics and no advertising identifiers. Everything created in the app stays on the device.

What stays on the device

Photos, audio recordings, notes, location data, checklists, signatures, reports and archives live solely in the app's data area on your iPhone. They are transmitted nowhere. If you want to pass them on, you do so yourself through the system share sheet.

Speech recognition for spoken notes runs with «requiresOnDeviceRecognition» on the device. There is no fallback to network recognition. If the language model is unavailable, the app says so and the text is typed.

The timestamp on sealing

If a timestamp service is configured, sealing an inspection sends an RFC 3161 request to that service. What is transmitted is a SHA-256 value only, a number 32 bytes long. No images, no notes, no coordinates, no names.

That value cannot be reversed to reveal what it was computed over. The service does not even learn that photos are involved.

Without a configured service there is no transmission at all. The app then works entirely without any outside connection.

The map extract

The location overview in the report is drawn on the device by default, with no outside connection. Turning on the real map extract in the settings transmits that extract to Apple in order to fetch the map material. Apple thereby learns the area in which the inspection took place.

The setting is off by default, and the app explains what it means when you turn it on.

The subscription

The subscription runs through the App Store. Payment is handled by Apple; we receive neither payment data nor any identifier pointing to a person. The app only learns from the system whether an entitlement exists.

Permissions

  • Camera — for the photos. Does not leave the device.
  • Location while in use — for the coordinate and accuracy radius of each photo. Does not leave the device.
  • Microphone — for spoken notes. Does not leave the device.
  • Speech recognition — to turn the note into text, on the device. Does not leave the device.

Background access is never requested.

Backups

The data lives under «Application Support» and is therefore included in the device backup, that is in iCloud Backup or a backup made through a computer. This is deliberate: a lost phone should not take the documentation with it. What happens to that backup follows your device settings and Apple's terms.

Deletion

An inspection is deleted in the app, and its files go with it. Removing the app from the device removes everything. There is no copy with us, because there never was one.

If you write to us

For an email enquiry we process your address and the content of your message in order to reply. Please do not attach photos from a live case — a description is normally enough for troubleshooting.

Your rights

Since we collect no personal data, there is nothing about Augenschein we could disclose or delete. Regarding an email to us, you may request information, correction or deletion at any time.

Changes

If anything changes about what leaves the device, this text is changed first and the date above updated.
